PTE is another famous test among universities in Scotland, England, Ireland etc. A PTE score of 50 – 63 is required to pass the test and get admission to the university that you prefer. These constitute the standard English Proficiency Tests. However, there are other subject-specific tests as well. For instance, the GMAT for Business Degrees, LNAT for Law, MAT for Mathematics, GAMSAT for Medical School etc.

Studying in the UK is achievable even without taking the IELTS. To be eligible for admission to a UK university without the IELTS, you can fulfil one of the following criteria: possessing a strong academic background, having a schooling background in an English medium, being deemed eligible through a Skype interview, passing alternative English proficiency tests like TOEFL or PTE, or completing a pre-sessional English course. Some universities, such as the University of Warwick or Northumbria University, place less emphasis on IELTS scores.

In addition to the English proficiency requirements, you may also have to take subject-specific exams to meet the admission criteria of certain courses or universities. For example, the GMAT for Business Degrees or the LNAT for Law. International students in the UK have access to a wide range of scholarships based on their course and university. These scholarships can either provide a yearly or one-time award to assist with tuition and other related expenses.
